Arrow Season 1 Review - A Dark Kind Of Hero

The main plot for the first season of Arrow is that Oliver has come back to starling city and he becomes a vigilante to save it from the scum that have broken and corrupted the city. We learn about what happened to him on the first year on the island that he was stranded on. Also Oliver faces the first big enemy of the arrow series.

Things that I enjoyed about the first season of arrow are the overall development of Oliver since he was on that island. Before Oliver was stranded on the island he was stuck up and kind of a prick. He acted out and because of the family’s money he thought he could do whatever he wanted to do with no consequences. After the island I thought he was kind of broken. He didn’t eat or sleep and he was distance from all of his friends about what happen. I also enjoyed the way Oliver dealt with the bad guys in the show because he didn’t hold back. I like the fact they show a darker side to a hero. I also like the team Oliver has built and I thought it was a balance of brains and muscle. The final battle between Oliver and Merlin was well thought out and I think it made Oliver think more about the people around him then himself as he stab himself to stab Merlin.

Things that I didn’t like about the first season are that they killed of a great character. I Thought tommy was a good character he could have been a great team mate for Oliver. Killing off Oliver’s best friends is a bit harsh towards Oliver, First his dad and now his best friend in the first season. Also I don’t like the fact they didn’t show us more people on his dad’s list and we only seen about 10 throughout the season.

Overall I thought the first season of arrow was brilliant. It a dark kind of show and at the same time it’s still a superhero show. It shows us the dark side of a superhero and what he went through to end up that way.
